Initiate yourself to large format analog photography with a view camera. From shooting to printing in the camera obscura, you will discover the technique of the paper negative while learning the basic principles of traditional photography.
The morning is dedicated to shooting a theme of your choice: Nature, Urban, Portrait or Still Life.
After an overview of 4x5 and 5x7 inch large format photography equipment and the basic principles of photography, we will shoot a minimum of two subjects.
Study of the subject, framing, exposure, all aspects will be discussed before the final click that will immortalise your photograph on paper.
Lunch is shared at the Wormsa restaurant in Metzeral to taste the local specialities.
The afternoon is dedicated to printing the photos taken in the morning. The first step is to develop the paper negatives. Once dry, the negatives will be used to print the photos in positive by contact. After making test strips to determine the exposure time, you will develop your prints in 4x5 inch (10x12cm) and 5x7 inch (13x18cm) formats.
Your negatives will be scanned and converted to positives by computer so that you can print your photos in a larger format or share them with your friends and family.
Finally, we will enjoy a moment of conviviality over tea, coffee, or a local beer while your prints are drying, an opportunity to talk about photography and old processes
