This hike begins in the hollow of the Marseille hills... We will quickly sink into the Provençal scrubland by a path at the bottom of the valley while gaining a little altitude.
Arrived at the pass, we will walk on the ridge which will reveal to us over the steps, several successive points of view both on the immensity of the massif and its reliefs, the city of Marseille and its symbols.
From up there, the picture of the Mediterranean Sea, its islands, the limestone cliffs as well as the turquoise blue waters of Sormiou is grandiose!
We then descend gradually to the latter to discover all its jewels, strolling through the alleys of cabins, admiring its coves and swim, as well as its rich heritage.

Perfect for a solo traveler
I booked a half-day swimming hike in the Calanque de Sormiou because I was traveling alone and was not familiar with the area or the terrain. It seemed safer going with a group and a guide. Indeed it was safer, and it was much more fun. Our guide was excellent, knowledgeable, and very patient with my terrible French, and my follow hikers (and cute dog) were very friendly and welcoming. I learned a lot about the region, the significance of the Calanques, and the unique history of the fishing community whose descendants still stay there. And, of course, the area is breathtaking, truly stunning. I would recommend this hike in a heartbeat.
