Put on your hiking boots and set off to discover the magnificent landscapes of the Hohneck stubble trail with a local tasting in the Vosges.
Hiking on the Hohneck Mountains, starting from La Schlucht
La Bresse is a town located near the German border. In the heart of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Natural Park, the La Bresse–Hohneck ski resort offers ski slopes surrounded by lakes, mountain ridges, and forests. The Hautes Chaumes are located between the Trois Fours to the north and the Rainkopf to the south. They are a fine example of open formations in the subalpine level of the Vosges Mountains.
The Hohneck, with its altitude exceeding 1,200 meters, is also one of the most famous and most visited of the Vosges ridges!

Outing Program
The hike begins at the Col de la Schlucht, heading towards the highest peak in the Vosges department, from where you'll overlook the Alsace plain and see the Black Forest and even the Alps on a clear day.
Accompanied by a professional, state-certified mountain guide, you'll pass through the secondary chaume des Trois Fours and the magnificent rocks of the Martinswand, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the glacial cirque.
Amidst its pine forest, you'll stroll along the trails bordering the Hohneck massif and its majestic glacial cirques, giving it an alpine feel.
The surrounding valleys are dotted with waterfalls, moraines, and glacial lakes formed during the Ice Age.
You'll finish by descending towards the Vosges mountains, passing through a beech-fir forest, with a beautiful view of Lake Longemer.
At the end of the hike, enjoy a tasting of local products.
Activity Schedule
Departure time: 10:00 a.m.
Duration: 2 hours
Arrival: 12:00 p.m.
➤ Departure: Col de la Schlucht in front of the Le Tétras building, where you will be met by a state-certified guide, who will explain the route and provide equipment.
➤ Stop: Hohneck, the highest peak in the Vosges department.
➤ Arrival: Descent through a beech-fir forest to our starting point.
You will discover:
➤ Hohneck is located in the subalpine region. This level, which follows the mountain level, is easily remarkable for its steep, rocky slopes, an absence of vegetation due to violent winds and low temperatures, where fir and beech forests no longer develop and give way to alpine plant species and stubble, vast grassy expanses, equivalent to mountain pastures in the Alps, although the Vosges subalpine level is unique in its kind.
➤ The Wormspel cirque can be reached via the névés trail. Its Alpine appearance is the result of the Ice Age, which carved out a lake that was gradually colonised by vegetation and a peat bog. Today, these natural features have been destroyed to make way for the creation of the Schiessrothried lake with its dam and numerous hiking trails.
➤ The Wormsa valley is a glacial valley and a listed natural site nestling in the sumptuous Grande Vallée de Munster, dotted with forests, rivers and waterfalls that are remnants of the Quaternary Ice Age. It takes its name from the Wormsa, a tributary stream of the Fecht. Its many cirques, rocky ridges and moraines will immediately bring to mind an alpine setting!
